Feb 1, 2010  Results of US Nationals in Virginia Beach

Team Greubel once again dominated at the WKKO sanctioned US Nationals.  We brought home 8 title belts.

Nick Wesley won both of his MMA bouts in the 1st round-one by tap out due to arm bar and one by TKO.

Stephen Sherlock and Cord Conoway and Kolin Rowell won their international fights by decision securing them US National Titles.

Brad Taylor initially lost by split decision, but the promoter overturned the decision and awarded him the belt.

Hudson Pullium won his first jits match.  He then was paired against our own Colby Masters.  Colby won when Hudson was unable to continue after hitting his head hard on the mat.

Edgar Nickson and Shawn Dodaro didn't have opponents  (Shawn's backed out after seeing him!) so they agreed to do a jits match together.  Shawn won by decision.

Nicolas Torrence did not have a kickboxing or MMA match ( 1 opponent backed out after seeing him hit pads, one was snowed in) so he and Matthew Moody agreed to do a jits match.

Nicolas won but in a gesture that reflects the caliber of athlete he is, he gave Matthew his belt.

Colby Masters and Kyler Stewart both had their 1st kickboxing matches.  Both of their opponents were very skilled and held multiple titles.  They still agreed to go through with the fight even knowing how stiff the

competition was.  Even though they lost we are very proud of them for stepping up like true Greubel fighters.

Benard Richardson, Kesha Springle, and Stephanie Stafford did not have anyone who would fight.

The 2008 U.S.WKKO Kickboxing/MMA Championships are complete and what an event it was!!!!  In the end (185) Fighters walked the walk and did their talking in the ring.
This past Saturday most of the TOP Kickboxing and MMA schools in the Country brought their fighters to fight and fight they did.  (175) Bouts before the day was complete.
History was made on this day, Saturday Nov. 15th 2008 was the first JUNIOR MMA event ever held in this Country that was Sanctioned.  Nobody else will be abe to say they are the first and we expect many states to now adopt our rules on how to have Juniors do MMA without injury and to be safe for all.  There were some sticking points but in the future we expect to work out all the kinks.  Head guards are required in our state for Juniors and the Top Ten Head Guard was the best for this type of fighting.  Shin Guards and head gears and 8oz. MMA gloves were the only equipment necessary besides the normal mouth piece and cup and supporter.  At the end of the day NO junior was injured and overall testimonies from all the top camps were all positive.  Top Teams from Kickboxing camps like:  Team Z, Team Tiger Schulman, Team Greubel, Team Smith, Team Murphy, Team Crowler, Team Manuel, Team Bars Boxing, Team Blackhawk, and many more Top Teams.  In MMA Top Teams like Team Z, Team Linxx, Team Lysak, Team Derby, Team WCMA and many more also walked the walk.  Many new teams as well and many teams from all over the Country.  In the end (22) states from the USA were represented at this event.  If we missed some teams it is not on purpose, others like Team Frazier, Team Miles Team Dabney, there are so many I could go on and on, but they all did well.  There will be a full report and which Team had the most wins in the days to come and individual stats and winners and results.  Right now as we are counting we know Team Greubel from GA. took home (9) belts and we are still counting.  Also Tam Smith from Va. Beach took home (9) Championship Belts and Bars Boxing had as many as (8) but we are still counting.  Final results will come by the end of the week when all results are posted.  We (Clark Walters and Walt Lysak and Craig Smith) want to Thank all who supported the event.  The event went flawless, except for a few disgruntled parents of which is understandable due to the lack of experience in such National events.  We try to explain to parents(most coaches know this already) that parents always watch only their kids and never watch the entire fight looking at both fighters.  It is hard not to watch your own kids, but is necessary to get a correct judgement of the fight itself overall. There will be testimonies from all the Top Camps and coaches in the days to come and we will also explain what if anything will be different in the next event.  There is a possible scheduled WKKO event in Richmond in January and possibly one in February in Massachusetts.  The next BIG event that Craig Smith, and Clark Walters are promoting will be the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus Ohio March 6th - 8th.  Information soon to come, you can go to or   for all info on all events we support.http://www.wkkousa.com/http://www.craigsmithkarate.com/

The top teams were as follows...

1.) Team Greubel Augusta Georgia = (9) Champion Belts
1.) Team Bars Boxing New York NY = (9) Champion Belts
1.) Team Smith Va. Beach Va. (9) Champion Belts

The fighters that went to Chesapeake, Viginia to fight from G.M.M.A were... Daniela Regan Tony Lester, Chris Richardson, Nicholas Torrance, Cord Connaway, Stephanie Stafford, Matt Simpson, and Edgar Nickson. Even though 2 other teams won 9 belts G.M.M.A. was the only team that accomplished that with only 7 fighters. 3 of which, fought the night before in Augusta Ga. Additionally, Team Greubel was the only team that tied for first that did not have one even loss that weekend.

Results of Greubel's fighters at Extreme Fight Night 5 in Augusta Ga.

Chase Hawk of GMMA defeated  Rob Trotter of Carolina Kodenkan by armbar round 2

Greubel's MMA would like to congtratulate Nathan Key for his brilliant kickboxing performance in Pont Audemer, France on March 8th 2008. Nathan represented the U.S. kickboxing team with class in an evening of fights that would feature France VS U.S.A. Nathan's opponent was Dieter Leclercq of Pont Audemer, France. According to the U.S. W.A.K.O. rep., Ronnie Copeland, Dieter had an incredible record of 120 wins with only 10 losses and was the current French national champion. With no prior martial arts experience, Nathan key, started his martial arts training just 2 years ago at Greubel's MMA. Nathan has competed in the U.S.A., Croatia, Canada, and France! He is record now stands at 16 wins and 1 loss. His only loss coming by way of a highly contraversial descision loss to the Russian national champion, who already had 50 fights, in the 2005 W.A.K.O. world ameteur championships. Nathan only had 5 fights.

Don't miss the Augusta Extreme Fight night 4 on Sat. Feb. the 23rd at the Bell Auditorium. Tickets are available at the box office or through ticket master. Seven fighters from G.M.M.A., Nathan Key, Josh Bennett, Wyatt Cunningham, Tyler Chavous, Rickey Baez, Micheal Lancaster, and the main event Anthony Henry, will step in the ring to test their metal that evening.
A big thanks to all of the fighters and coaches that made the G.M.M.A. smokers fights a success on Sat. Feb. 9th!

Congratulations to Nathan "The Natural" Key for his brilliant kickboxing performance in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Nathan fought against the veteran muay thai champion Phil "No Fear" Leire. Nathan would be the only non-Canadian athlete to win that night. Fighters were flown in from all over the world to compete against top notch Canadian fighters. Teams from Germany, Mexico, and the United States were present at the event.

John Greubel is making a name for himself in the World Combat League. ( www.worldcombatleague.com) He made his pro debut in the Atlantic city in the world famous Taj Mahal casino in front of thousands of excited martial arts fans. John Greubel is as cool and confident as they get. During his pre-fight medical he had an amazingly low heart rate of 50 bpm. Keep in mind that this was right before his pro debut that was to be nationally televised. John would be the back up fighter if Tim Connors of the St. Louis Enforcers could not continue. Tim was last years WCL MVP for his weight class. Tim unfortunately was knocked out by veteran figher Craig Oxley of the Miami Force. This was John's opportunity to make a statement, and he did so by defeating Oxley. A couple of months later he would get the opportunity to fight in San Antonio, Texas against David "speedy" Gonzalez of the New Jersey Tigers. This time his bout would be the deciding factor of whether or not his team would win or lose. Again John Greubel rose to the occasion and did what he does best...win! We are proud of you John and lucky to have such a great instructor!

Greubel's Mixed Martial Arts would like to congratulate the following kickboxers Tyler Chavous, Nicholas Torrance, Nathan Key, and Clint Martin for earning their black belts on DEC. 29 07. These gentlemen are the first black belts that Greubel's MMA have produced. The black belts that follow have big shoes to fill! "You guys are warriors and I am proud to call you black belts!" Mark Greubel

_ NAGA 2007 results

Kickboxing Nov. 3 2007: Chesapeake Va. hosted the W.K.K.O. national kickboxing championships. Greubel's MMA took 4 fighters, Stephanie Staford, Brad Taylor, Chris Hendry, and Tyler Chavous to Va. to test their skills. Let me start off by saying Stephanie has been to three different tournaments now and has yet to have a fight because her opponents never show up for the fight. This tournament was no different. Brad Taylor had a strong showing against the former U.S. champion Dean Lavin, but was stopped in an extra round by a body shot. Chris Hendry, one of our MMA competitors, initially went up to Va. to get some ring experience with some good kickboxers. His wish was granted when he had to face Kyle Stanton (3 X U.S. champion) in his preliminary round. Chris proved to every one that he is no joke and must be taken seriuosly after he won a unanimous decision against Kyle. In his Championship round he would face someone who owned his own gym. Chris was not intimidated at all, and knocked out his opponent in 31 seconds of the first round. Tyler Chavous was set for a re-match in the championship fight against the former W.A.K.O. U.S. champion. Tyler easily defeated his opponent in his first fight, but this time his opponent came prepared for Tyler's power and conditioning and gave him a run for his money. Although his opponent looked stronger in the re-match Tyler still proved to be to much for him to handle. Tyler won his fight via unanimous decision. Tyler is also the first Greubel's fighter to win national titles in both kickboxing and jiu-jitsu. Oh yeah, did I mention Tyler is only 8 years old. Way to go Tyler! We are proud of you.

Sept. 27 2007: Justin Pickett was chosen to represent the U.S.A. in England to fight for the Golden Belt Associations 136lb. international rules world title against Jamie Gilbert of England. With just 2 months of leg lick training Pickett gave Gilbert, who was a 4 time European leg kick champ with a 23-0 record, the fight of his life in a seven round war. Pickett was floored in the first round with a straight right hand, but immediately jumped up and took control of the next three rounds. the next couple of rounds were close, but it seemed that Gilbert was landing more leg kicks than Pickett. Pickett turned it on in the 7th and in my opinion won the last round. We are very proud of you Justin!

Congratulations to all of the competitors from Greubel's Mixed Martial Arts that competed in the Augusta Extreme Fight Night III. Here are the results...

Great perfomances again by our kickboxers and MMA fighters!

IKF World Classic - Orlando Fla. - Aug. 10,11,12 2007. Greubel's Mixed Martial Arts took 8 fighters to compete in this years IKF World Classic. By the end of the weekend, G.M.M.A came home with 3 new amateur world tournament champions. Nicholas Torrance, Nathan Key, and John Greubel were all crowned 2007 World Classic champions.

Nicholas Torrance's performance was, as always, awe inspiring. He easily defeated his first opponent by knock out in the first round with a round kick to the liver. His second opponent, Abel Alhambra was heavily favored by many of his peers to win this years tournament. Nicholas, however, "didn't get the memo". Alhambra entered the tournament with an impressive 12 wins and only 4 losses. However, Torrance's speed, power, agressiveness and ring generalship proved to be too much for his opponent to handle. He won via unanimous decision.

W.A.K.O. junior fighter of the year, Nathan "show stopper" Key would enter this years tournament as an adult. Many questioned whether he would be able to handle the power and skill the adult division would present. About the power... Natahn answered ... victory via unanimous decision against his first opponent the undefeated Victor Ramero, 2 and 0 with 2 KO's, About the skill... Natahn answered... victory via unanimous decision against the very game Roman Shakhmanov. Trained by former professional world kickboxing champion David "Thunder" Cummings, Roman stepped into the final bout with a perfect 5 win 0 loss fight record. Any more questions?

With over a year lay off from the ring, many thought that ring rust and the level of competition in this years tournament would be too much for John Greubel to handle, especially considering a lack luster performance in last years tournament. His first bout was against the very skilled Dave Thomas. Prior to their match Dave held a record of 11 wins 4 losses. 1 of the losses were to the "D-man" of Virginia and one of the other losses were to current world champion John Lewis that went to a judges decision. In other words if Dave lost it was only to the best of the best. In the first round with Dave, John dropped his opponent to the canvas twice with vicious body shots and kicks. The second round started no different than the first, but ended with Greubel dropping his opponent again with accurate and powerful body punches. In his final bout he would face the hard hitting Ralondo Luna. Rolando was coming into the bout with 6 wins and 4 losses, however, 4 of his wins were by way of knockout! Rolando had also never been knocked out himself. John silenced all critics by knocking out Luna in 38 seconds of round 1 with one of the most brutal spinning backfists ever seen. Luna was out before he hit the canvas and remained there for several minutes after.

Greubel's Mixed Martial Arts is already well known for its outstanding record in the kickboxing world. As soon as owners Mark and John Greubel opened its doors on Dec. 5 05, most of the competetive kickboxers in the Augusta area flocked to G.M.M.A. to begin training with the undefeated kickboxing champions. G.M.M.A. has been open for less than 2 years and has already produced 8 IKF world tournament kickboxing champions! What people didn't know us for was our MMA. That's because not many people had heard of Chris Elms, our grappling and MMA instructor. Well, if you didn't know before, you know now, Chris Elms is an MMA genius. In many people's eyes he has already established himself as the area's top MMA coach. For all the non believers we are here to prove we are not just a kickboxing school. We are not just a jiu-jitsu school, We are a MIXED MARTIAL ARTS school that is here to stay! On Aug. 11 2007 G.M.M.A.'s Chris Hendry, and James Yoon competed in Macon's EXTREME FIGHT NIGHT. Chris Hendry has proven once again that he is a force to be reckoned with! Chris submitted his opponent in under a minute, via key lock. James Yoon made his MMA debut and won by hammering his opponent with knees and finally submitting him by an armbar. G.M.M.A. would also like to congratulate it's newest member Chris Hauser for his impressive MMA debut. Hauser won by way of knock out!

GMMA would like to congratulate Nathan Key for winning Jr. fighter of the year by the W.A.K.O. Nathan is not only an exceptional fighter but, and inspiration to anyone wanting to get involved in martial arts. Mr. key joined GMMA with no previous martial arts experience, and in less than a year and a half has won won the I.K.F. full contact rules world tournament title, the W.A.K.O. United States title twice, and represented the U.S.A. in the W.A.K.O. world championships in Croatia to win a silver medal with only 5 fights under his belt. Nathan's first fight at the world championships ended in a K.O. of the Bosnian champ. His second fight was a unanimous decision against a Russian with over 70 fights. In the final bout he fought a Russian with over 50 fights and lost a very cotriversial decision. We are proud of you Nathan. Keep up the good work! If you would like to see the article on the W.A.K.O. website visit http://www.usopenkickboxing.com/eventnews.htm, and scroll down to Nathan Key's article.
